First off I'm looking to tone up, not bulk up.
A little birdy told me that for lifting I would get better results with less sets, but more reps. E.I Instead of me doing 5 sets of 5, I should be doing 3 sets of 10 (just an example). Is this true for toning?

I'd probably build you a cake and then make sex to you. If I was drunk :o.

about your question, on one hand you wont bulk much from a 1-5 rep range but you really should work in like the 15-20 rep rang if not more and cut the rest between sets to a minimum. Muscle hypertrophy or bulk as you called it is more a question of diet and hormones.

I disagree with your rep suggestion.

I'd keep the reps around 8-10, maybe lower if you like that more. Girls don't bulk unless they're more man than woman or taking steroids.

if all someone wants to do is tone up then circuit training or cardio weightlifting is about all they need.

Zaffir  ^^^^ definitly not anywhere close to being manly!

And yup I did the circut training and got the initial weight to where I wanted it to be, now I'm just trying to take it the next level...very feminin broly if you will!

Right now I'm doing reps of 10's, going into my third week of being "serious" about it. Feels great, just wanted to get a feel for what this bunch did for toning.:hs:

I think she'd get better results from a more vigorous workout. Remember the big deal Christophers made about the epoch of weight lifting vs. cardio. She mentioned weight lifting - if she wanted cardio she could go ride a bike :dunno:

I also have the feeling that what she means by "tone" is to not get huge and bulky. Like i said, girls don't get huge.

well if thats the case then you should look into following some type of split and varying your rep scheme a little more.

"Toning" is a misnomer. To have better muscle tone you need two things - more muscle mass, and lower bodyfat. Weightlifting is great at getting you both. The same basics that got Arnold to where he is (was) took fitness models to where they are. The basics apply to both men and women. Girls can put on muscle mass, but in nowhere near the amount that guys do (lumberjack women excluded :o ).

One of the girls i see in my gym lifts as hard as the monsters, and has one of the most amazing figures i've ever seen. I think I remember other people on F&N saying the same thing.

I do my cardio in between lifting days. I'm just looking to have a nice sculpted body. I think I've done well for myself,

    Then
    5'5"
    140 pounds
    26%bf

    Now
    5'5"
    118 pounds
    19% bf

    I live healthy...but I don't deny myself things.
