so I'm seeing AWESOME prices on g5 stuff now, i.e. 20" g5 imacs.

How dumb is it to buy a g5 based mac? Is everthing going to be compiled for intel from here on out?

Will new apprs run on a g5 mac?

if you don't want to drop the money on a new intel mac, that's fine...
from here on out, everything will be a universal binary, meaning it'll install the proper software depending on your processor...
you'll probably have at least another 3 years of shelf life on your G5...no worries on that one...
my ibook is a G4 and i'm still up and running...and you got a good solid year ahead of you before intel takes over the market...

so if it's your starter computer, you'll be fine for a long while...

i'd go for the intel iMac. The G5's are still great chips too.

i've got a brand new G4 powerbook and its still a bad ass. All apps are going to be universal so you're fine. get the G5 if you don't wanna pay the extra money for the intel

g5 is a good choice if you do a lot of photoshop now, b/c the mnem suite won;t be universal for a while.
