From an article today about the ADF sending another 300 strong SFTG to Afghanistan ahead of spring.

Would I be correct in assuming this is a niche capability, thus there's a reasonable small group to fulfill that mission?

The wording is weird, but I am thinking AWACS.
If it is AWACS, then I wouldn't consider it a small group.

No not AWACs, it's ground based RAAF stuff, basically a deployable air traffic control type thing from what I've read.

Edit: The wording is a bit wierd but it's a direct quote from an informal interview so it's not going to be horribly polished.

its just sounds like the US trying to make the efforts over there more decentralized as far as US troops...it also probably gives a few personnel the ability to come back home...but im not sure how that works into the AEF schedule

Sounds like our Combat Controllers, or our deployable ATC.
