I have a comp coming up on the 31st (Iowa's Strongest Man) and could use some advice or pointers.

The last event is a keg load (200,225,250,275,300) to 48" platform.

Now, I've been able get all the other items for the events and practice with them for about two months now, but I haven't been able to get a keg to even play with, and I don't have access to any stones either. I've searched youtube and only came up with one keg loading vid, all the other were press vids.

Any instructions or tips would be very appreciated.

go to a liquor store and ask them if they have any old and busted kegs they can give you or if they know of anyway for you to get one.

I wouldn't doubt that liquor stores have empty kegs. You get $10 back when you bring it back so I'm sure if you gave them some money you'd be able to get some empties.

I've tried three different stores in the area. No one would give me an empty even if paid the deposit for it. And I know the obvious answer would be to get a full one, but its probally not the best idea for me to try to drink it dry, and I don't know that many people that could help. I did get a number for a distributor, but they're a good drive away and between work and the gym I haven't had a chance to try there.

    Good idea though.

Coincedently, the closest main college is located near the distributor.

I know how kegs work, I work a beer distributor

Seems like a waste of time I would rather get a full half, practice with that since he is so short on time then drink the beer.

Yeah that makes sense, just let it settle down for a while before you tap it again. God I miss the beers, I have a keg at my house and I don't drink off it and it's so hard. :wtc:

You claim to know how kegs work but seem to think that filling them with sand will be some monumental task.

OMG ITS A KEG. HOW WILL I EVER PUT STUFF INTO IT?!?

    :o

Yea I just thought it would be easier to practice with a full half then drink it. Seemed to me more work that its worth for a a week of practice. Or I may just be a drunk and have a hard time thinking of anything but beer in a keg

He's training for a meet. If he builds these correctly he'll have them for years, since I'm sure this isn't going to be his only one.

I do have plans for competeing in more contests and will come up with some kegs in the fute, but for now all I'm looking for is a bit of advice as to how to pick these things up efficiently. I can think of a few ways, but I would like to see how others have done it.
