I'm going to be meeting with a recruiter shortly, and mainly I was wondering how hard is it to actually get accepted?

I have heard mixed answers, and figured this would be the place to ask.

I have no Misdemeanors or Felonies, only traffic stuff.
I will have to lose some lbs, but that won't be hard.
I can meet the physical req's without too much trouble.
Mentally, I did well on a "practice" asvab, and consider myself pretty intelligent
    No major medical history.

So, do you think they will take me?
I'm already planning on meeting the recruiter in interview attire.

    Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't be so worried about getting in if you don't have anything serious on your record. The CG takes a lot of people, but the hard part is having qualifying ASVAB scores for the rate/job you want.

Something you might want to keep in check though, is your weight. The CG has become more and more strict with weight standards lately, and rightfully so. Check out the new BMI scale we're switching to next year:

Feel free to ask me some CG questions. I'm an OS1 with 7.5 years CG experience. Good luck.

I would like either IS or OS, what special req's would be needed from the get go for these ratings?

I'm not too sure for IS, but I believe it's a lot like OS... You would need to be eligible and remain eligible for a Secret and possibly a Top Secret clearance for as long as you serve in those rates.

There isn't a prereq when you join, but you should know that you will be working on a security clearance package sooner rather than later for the OS or IS rates before you go to the "A" schools. With that said, you'll be listing places you've worked, lived, traveled to and people who have known you for the last 7 years (secret), and 10 years (top secret).

Not to mention you need to list any debts, arrests, drug use, etc. Be honost. People get secret clearances with some pretty decent drug use history, as long as they are clean now.

Also you'll need to be a U.S. citizen in order to get your clearance in the OS and IS rates. You can have a dual-citizenship, but you must be willing to drop the other one for U.S.

    Thanks for the response!
Not a problem on the honesty.
I'm not afraid to admit I have indeed smoked pot in my life. No drug charges, and pot use is well behind me in life.
No arrests or bad debts, just your basic student loan debt.

Full U.S. citizen, born here in WA state.

    Oh yeah, another question.
When it comes to the "dream sheet" what are the odds of getting WA or AK if you request it? Is it first come first served, as needed, etc..

It comes down to what priority you are (based on the unit you're coming from), what your evaluations are, and what spots are actually open. That stuff will be explained to you in greater detail when you get to that time, like towards the end of boot camp or your "A" school course.

Washington is a pretty easy state to get. It was #6 on my top 10 dream sheet when I moved in 2006... so yeah. Alaska is even easier to get, there are a lot of OS billets to choose from all over the state.

There are only two clearance levels: Secret and Top Secret.
Everything else is special access programs or compartmented information. a poly is only when you have a TS and need access to special programs or compartmented information.

You can con your recruiter giving you "Guaranteed district" WA and OR is one, AK is another.....that just means they will send you somewhere in that area....

dont HAVE to have a poly though to have a TS with access to compartmented info (SCI)..

if IS in the CG is anything like Navy you'll have to be eligible for a TS/SCI and do a SSBI investigation.

    USCGR here.

Grad boot in July. Currently in MK A School in Yorktown, VA.

It's badass man. I wanted to go active but I had a fucking scumbag recruiter lie to me and tell me the reserves was an easy way to get in quicker and then just transfer over to active. He didn't tell me transferring would be such a PITA... if at all possible.

Do not take no for an answer... all recuiters are POS IMO. I have yet to meet a current or prior recruiter that was decent. Prior recruiters have told me stories that make my blood boil.

IS and OS are chill rates. I'm more of a law enforcement, get my hands dirty kinda guy so I went MK... being I am already certified in many areas already.

It's an awesome time and a super chill branch, provided you play by the rules and keep your nose clean. Good luck.
