Question for HisXLNC

Discussion in 'OT Driven' started by GreyGooseVodka, Oct 10, 2004.

  1. Why isn't Nissan recalling the MAF's on late model Altimas? There seem to be many failures going on, even with the stock intake.

I want to put a CAI on my 2002 2.5S, but I don't want to be stuck with a $500 MAF replacement bill :wtc:

It don't think it's widespread enough to require a recall. It will probably be a TSB at the worst.

If your car is still under warranty and your car is stock, it shouldn't cost a dime.

  3. Why is the MAF sensor so fragile that a CAI will cause it fail?

it's not the CAI that ruins it. it could be the oil people use on the filter. if they over-oil it it'll ruin the MAF sensor. if you odn't use enough of it, obviously you're not getting enough filtration. i would say most people dont' know how to oil their filters properly. hehe

  7. The stock Nissan OEM filter is oiled

So oil is not the issue

maybe the maf can't handle the extra air turbulence?

Maybe the aftermarket CAI aren't as solidly mounted as the stock intake, and the vibration is causing the failures in the MAF. The MY99 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS have the same issue with thier MAF. They use a hot film MAF, which is on the fragile side. 98's used a hot wire MAF, which was stronger, and didn't have the problem with intakes that the 99's do. It may be the same thing with the Altimas.
