For those of you who have black belts can you please say what you have your black belt in, and how long it took you to get that?

    Thanks.

    Taekwondo.

    3 years.

    It's a joke.

    MMA > TKD.

It was a waste of time and money.

I wouldn't say it's a joke. TKD/Karate gives you a foundation for MMA. Chuck Liddel, GSP, Anderson Silva, Machida, etc. all have blackbelts in TMA

Didn't you get the memo? 250 lbs NFL linebacker is not very good at gymnastic.

    Gymnastic > NFL

I think their standards are pretty low for a first degree black belt, but after that, the bars are raised for each degree of black belt.

Also, most tkd places will train live. It's an olympic sport.

tkd is pretty useless in a "street" or self defense situation, but then again so is bjj. boxing > all

thanks for the one serious answer in this thread Optamix.

Apparently this forum isn't any different than the off-topic.

Its a joke because it doesn't teach you how to fight. It focuses on "art" way more than "martial".

A confident street fighter would roll through most any TKD black belt that tried to fight using the techniques they learned.
