Hey fellas, as most of you guys know apart from me judo i am also a bjj blue belt.

I have been having a lot of luck with the crucifix at the moment, but I am wondering why i dont see it a lot in high level comp. I usually nail it of side control by placing one arm under his near leg and casping the thigh on his far leg. then my arm near his head reaches and casps under his armpit. I push him up to the side, slide my leg behind his head and get the crucifix.

I have also been shown how to get it from mount and when they are turtled but im not comfortable with it yet.

I was just wondering if this is just an under used position in bjj or is there another reason it isnt used so much?

Trvia: In judo the translation for the collar choke from the crucifix is called 'the hell strangle'

because in higher level bjj the practitioners arent going to make the mistakes necessary for you to be able to pull that move off.

    .

I land the crucifix on white belts all of the time. I use it daily on the mat. But anything over a white belt and it's unlikely they leave an arm dangling or don't roll out of it while you're riding the thigh up.

the crucifix is landed in high level competition. there are ways to force the guys arm into that position. marcelo garcia and baret yoshida use it quite a bit.

    it's actually baret's fav position

to answer the original post i think the reason that you dont see it in bjj quite as much is

#1 you dont score points for that position
#2 people dont lollygag in the turtle position the way they do in judo
