    What does "in Charlie" mean?

There's a perimeter road that runs around the local Air Force base that's usually open to the public, up to a certain point. I was on the road yesterday, going to school and they had the road all closed off. They were turning everyone else around at a checkpoint, but waved me through (presumably because I was driving a police cruiser). I got up to where I was going to turn off onto a public road, but the gate was closed and locked (would have been nice if they told me that, obviously I was just cutting through). I turned back around and asked the guy at the checkpoint how long the gate will be closed. He said that it would be closed as long as they were "in Charlie."

    Anyone know what that means?

While in FPCON Charlie, bases are locked down to a Single point of Entry-Exit... And yeah, the wiki link too.

Yup...military was conducting security exercises for a whole week last week simulating different Force Protection Conditions. We had that at the NWS also. Are you talking about back road that runs along the AFB and Airport?
