Does the 'Windows XP Pro Upgrade' allow for full reinstalls? My school allows us to keep the laptops they issue us but they said that once we have graduated, they cannot reinstall WinXP Pro if something happens to the harddrive. So they gave us the option to purchase "MS Windows XP Professional Upgrade - Student Option" in case we need to reinstall windows. I guess what I'm wondering is why it's the upgrade and not the full install.

the upgrade DOES allow a fresh reinstall, but it may ask for you to insert a previous windows CD to verify... If you have a windows 98/me/2000/xp_home cd, then you're fine. Insert the xp_pro_upg cd, then when it asks for a previous verison, pop that in, then it verifies that you have something eligible for "upgrade" and it completes it's fresh install.

I have an XP Pro CD that was used for another computer. Would that work?
