I just bought a new 5d with lens off craigslist, I look in the box and the warranty registration cards for both lens and body says that they will need the sales reciept for warranty to be valid. If the seller can draft up a sales reciept will my warranty be valid?

does the camera have to come from an authorized canon dealer for it to be valid?

Not to be a dick, but this sounds like something I would have thought out before I dropped a TON of cash on a DSLR.

Yes but it was an awesome deal I could not pass up.

    EDIT: even without a warranty.

Might not be able to get a warranty, but just get it covered with your insurance company. My plan is $1.60 per $100 with no deductible for personal use, and like $2.30 per $100 for commercial use.

If it goes bad get insurance to cover it?

$1.60/mo per $100? of what the camera is worth brand new or how much I bought it for?
damn it just feels like a waste since its a sealed box and the warranty cards are unfilled.

that's probably the way to go. I never had to send in a receipt when I bought my d200.
