I'm looking at getting some new tunnels off ebay, something like these:

I've only ever bought earrings that are stainless steel and silver in color, but now that I'm getting some black tunnels I want to make sure that the paint won't rub off over time and/or possibly infect my piercing.

So I'm wondering that "anodized" means? I see a lot of descriptions that say the tunnels are made of surgical steel with like "anodized black titanium coating" or whatever. Is it safe to go with something like that?

    Any help is appreciated.

I have several pieces that are like that and I have never had a problem with the coating coming off or anything like that. Just wash them in something mild, like a little soap and warm water and you should be ok.

It might be advisable to stay away from them if it is a fresh piercing or stretch, just in case the material irritates your skin.

anodizing is dying and or thickening the existing layer of oxide around a metal.

I would stay away from ones like that in general due to the fact they are externally threaded... especially for a fresh piercing or stretch

i dont like double flares like that simply because the people that i know that wear them get lots of gunk build up.. they dont let the area breathe since they are so enclosed. i guess its not a problem if you are like me and take out and wash your plugs atleast once if not twice a day.

I have worn some like that before and I would have to say they accumulate as much gunk on them as a tunnel with just an O-ring on the back.

I can wear mine for only a day and have some crap on them.

And whether I wore a straight one with an O-ring or those threaded double flared ones I would have the same amount.

In terms of reaction (or lack thereof) with skin, how's titanium compared to stainless?

I just want something that requires the least maintenance.

And yes, I do wash my piercings at least once a day.
