so, as i understand it, a tour of duty is a year long thing on a ship. followed by a 3 (4?) year long assignment on land?
is there any way to cut those land assignments out? would my career advance more slowly if i did?

So you want to stay on the ship where the action is, huh?

Thats pretty much backwards for 99% of jobs in the navy...

typical sea duty was 4-5 years for first term last i heard with 2-3 shore after that, and you can request back to back seaduty and even get a shore duty that is deployable...

    i c wut u did thar

in all seriousness. i just want to keep moving forward, and if back to back to back deployments is what it takes, then i'm willing to do it. but if it will slow my career down, then i'll stick to the traditional model

you mean all that material the recruiter gave me was a lie?
    recruiters don't lie!

    >_>
ok, well, thanks for the heads up!
