Sorry if this question sounds stupid...but...

I just bought a Canon S3. If I want a narrower depth of field (more background blurring), would it make a difference if I attach a teleconverter lens?

its hard to do with a point and shoot. have you tried the basics first?

zoom in all the way, get as close to the subject as possible, put as much distance between subject and background as possible and set your aperture as open as possible.

one problem with P&S cams is that the longer focal lengths (more zoom), the aperture becomes smaller, so even though you create more distance with the background, the aperture becomes smaller so it's a toss up.

That's why I wonder whether a teleconverter will help since it increases focal length.

When it comes to background blurring, my new Canon S3 is wayyyyyy better than my old P&Ss. I'm just trying to find ways to improve further.

I'm sure you've spent more than that on a woman.

Another way is to get a filter adapter and a macro filter such as a +0.5 or +1. It will probably lower your working distance considerably which will be no good for portraits.

The raynox 250 will give you good magnification and DOF but I dont think it will work on larger subjects.

How did you know? :eek3: :mamoru:

Yeah, it will compliment the 70-200 quite nicely. Bought it used from keh.com in like new condition (new is $3800). Now all I need is some L glass on the wider end, and I am all set.

As long as you don't beat it up too bad it will keep it's value.

    You know that though.
