i'm walking around a restaurant right now taking pictures inside and outside and while i'm indoors i notice that at 28mm it's having a hard time "beeping" beeping is basically when i half shutter for focus, it's not letting me take pictures . at the moment i'm shooting at 28mm with different apperatures (3.5, 5, and 10).

Do you have AF-assist light on?

    Can you manual focus?

it means there's not enough light for you to autofocus and you're hunting for a focus spot

and turn off the beep before someone stabs you!:o

That means it is not able to lock focus.

What lens and body? AF works best on high contrast items, you might need to focus on something in the same plane, then recompose.

Depending on the body, you might need to pop the flash up to strobe for AF assist.

yeah I don't think those canon models have af lamps do they? Pretty sure you need to pop up the flash for af assist. Could be wrong, I'm a nikon fanboy :mamoru:
