Going up to a friends cabin next week. 5.5 acres of land next to a mountain side. Thought i might bring my pistols and shotgun and a rifle up there to shoot around. He says he does it with a .22lr. What are some safety considerations when shooting in wooded areas ('backyard shooting") he says it is very isolated area where the neighbors are no where in sight. Im a city boy so i only shoot at ranges. any help would be appreciated.

Nothing wrong with backyard shooting, but he needs to have a proper backstop or at least steep hill to shoot into.

:werd: Just make sure the bullets stop somewhere and you're good to go.

    1) Ear/Eye protection
    2) Don't shoot downhill if possible
    3) Soft backstop (do NOT shoot at rocks!)

I'd call the police/sheriff and make sure it's not against the law to discharge a firearm in the county/city that he's in. Better safe than sorry when it comes to this kinda shit :dunno: :o

As well as what was said above: good backstop, ears/eyes, and use your brain...

    Why?

I would rather shoot down at a target than up at one...

Don't forget to bring plenty of clays and a clay launcher to shoot your glock at.

As long as you've got a good backstop, like everyone else has said, you should be fine. Most places have laws against discharging a firearm within city limits, but if you're out in the woods chances are you aren't in a city.
