    I want to go from 8ga. to 4ga.

    My amp is only 400w, with a 40amp fuse on the power kit.

    Will the 4ga. be too much for a 400w, 4ohm amp? Should I consider a smaller fuse?

    And I should probably go with a 4ga. ground wire my capacitor as well, right?

    it'll be fine to upgrade your wire, but stay close to the power needs of your amp when choosing a fuse. and yes, 4 ga for your grounds. always match power and ground sizes

    the guage of the wire is only specified to protect the wire (from melting), so at 400w @ 4 ohm you'll only be pulling 10A

    Power = I*I*R

    8 guage is perfectly fine for 10A current draw and the 40A fuse is actually spec'd too large. If you plan on upgrading your system any time soon then 4 guage might be necessary. If not then i'd just leave it alone and save yourself the hassle.
