My uncle, marine corps, came over tonight to let me borrow his rifle for deer hunting. I am not into big mods and such, but he let me borrow a 300 Winchester Magnum. This thing is huge and powerful. It has a $300 scope on it of which I dont know the name of. I was wondering, what is your opinion on this rifle?

Since you named the weapon by the cartridge it fires, not the actual rifle model, it's hard to determine.

    It's like saying:
    "I have a 9mm, is this a good handgun?"

If it were a Sig, I would say, "Yes, the quality of that handgun is fine and superior."

If it were a Ruger or a Jennings, I would say, "That gun is made out of pot-metal, please sell it to someone unsuspecting and ignorant so you can buy something that can hurt someone/thing OTHER than you."

.300 win mag is a awesome round. Any of the big three rifle manufactures would be a good match for that round.

average fps is about 2900-3200 with about 3500-3600 ft lbs of energy between various loads.

Was going to say, Ruger makes some very tough and dependable pistols that I would bet my life on.

.300 mag is a bit much for whitetail deer - unless you plan on shooting them at 300 yards.

I finally got it. It is a Remington 300 Winchester Magnum. This is not a photo of it, but this is just a model.

The main difference is, we dont have the pistol grip, ours is just solid.

I do plan on being long range this year. I have always been at least within 100 yards, and now I am wanting to try to up it. I want to see JUST how far I can shoot one from.
