So I've decided that i'll be driving to Alaska in August and since NOBODY in my section has ever PCSed, no one can really help me out with a straight answer. When I'm filling out my leave form do I ask for 30 days or just the days minus the driving time? I'm authorized about 14 days to drive there so it's a hefy chunk of leave... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    What branch?
For the Navy, you just ask for 30. The driving time is included in your orders.
    It works like this..example only
    report NLT 30 Sept
    travel and proceed 15 days
that would mean you would check out of the command at 15 sept if you didnt take leave.
Then if you take leave, add that on, and you will get your checkout date.
I would taek all of it, and if you check in early, thats fine, but at least you get to make that choice.

you also get 8 days for house hunting and unpacking time after you report in. AF at least.

I should ask about that too. Basically they told us we can get 29days leave without having to go to anyone higher to have it signed. I'm going to call the S-1 and make sure taking Permissive TDY won't be a problem once i'm up there to find a house. I have a report date of July 11th and return from Hawaii the 9th or 10th. Kind of cutting it close...

Because my company used to be a black hole... nobody leaves until the ETS and nobody new comes in unless they're fresh from AIT... It's a long range extension (basically just tactical satellite communications) comapny.
