anyone know how this works, ive only used AGP slots for video cards..is there a big improvement from AGP to PCI-E? If i were to run 2 cards at the same time, would it register as 512 if both were 256? does it run both cards at the same time?

    thanks in advance!:wavey:

I assume you mean SLI? No, the driver mulitplexes the cards and uses them to render 1/2 each frame theoretically doubling fill-rate. In reality this is about 60-80% at best. Effectively, you have 256MB of texture ram, but the amount of framebuffer ram available to each frame doubles. In the case of a simple 2 card system, each frame buffer drives each display and there is no resource crossover between cards, so each display has 256MB.

As far as gaming needs go, no there is little difference between AGP 8x and PCI-e 16x. The bottlenecks are the host cpu/memory bus and the gpu and its memory. Go with pci-e for a bit more future proofing..
