So lately I've been toying with the idea of hitting the gym 7 days a week instead of my 4-5. I plan on only hitting my major muscle groups once per week... Yet using the other days to do abs, calves, and/or neck. My question is, with a proper diet and rest of muscle groups, is it ok to go at it 7 days a week or is it too much for the body to handle?

It's not necessary... and why not just train your abs and calves the same way you'd train any other muscle group?

basically says too many people try to split up their workouts into specific parts instead of maintaining a heavy focus on the basics
