Question about eating at maintenance

    I've read on here from plenty of people that it is a good idea to eat at maintenance for a few weeks after a bulk. Does this same advice also apply after you've finished cutting or can you almost immediately jump back into bulking?

    My guess is that your body will be in a mode which will help fat gain since it has had less cals than it needed for a certain amount of time. I think it'd be better to get your metabolism to its normal level beforehand and it'll get hormones to their normal levels too. You could still get in bulk mode right away but you'd have to take into account that your maintenance calories are lower now.

    If you went through a real cutting phase then afterward your body will put muscle on like crazy. This is how bodybuilders get bigger after every contest. You will gain fat but to maximize the muscle gain, jump right into a bulking phase. If you gain too much weight too quickly, beware of extreme lower back pumps.

    werd, all i've ever read is that post-contest, they REALLLLY bulk up cuz they're bodies are so deprived that they're ripe for growth -- the body just wants to retain everything it can after being put through hell

    I think a lot more of it also has to do with the fact that a lot of bodybuilders/fitness girls just go hog wild after a contest instead of easing back into it and keeping some control on their diet. So they just put on a lot of weight fast because they're pigging out.
