i've been ripping all my CD's to FLAC.

initially i was using EAC on my pc. it was taking *forever* and in some cases would hang on individual tracks for hours.

i tried ripping the same CD's to FLAC on my mac using a program called audialhub (company also makes a video encoding program that i use regularly). these rips take about 10 minutes max and never have any errors or slowdown. the songs seem to play fine.

the PC is a few years old, but has plenty of RAM and a decent processor.
the mac is new, intel c2d.

    my question:

what could be the reason for the faster ripping on the mac? could it be that the mac program isn't putting as much work into error checking, or is it just a PC-mac difference?

2 completely different computers running different programs.

Can't really make a good comparison with that.

Sounds to me like a software problem, or a CD drive problem. It almost certainly has nothing to do with the inherent differences between PCs and Macs.

you think a problem with the PC's drives?
EAC is installed with more-or-less default options.

i didn't think it was a mac-pc thing, i was wondering if it could be in the difference in the way EAC handles FLAC encoding vs. the way that Audialhub handles the encoding.

EAC's error checking is very visible, with log files, etc. Audialhub just kind of poops out the finished flac's very fast.
