So, I've always been more of a handgun person than rifle, and I don't know that much about rifles...but with all these AR threads popping up...can someone please explain what the big deal is about these guns? Why are they so popular, etc?

A lot of fun to shoot, very easy to add accessories different features that adds a personal touch to your gun, people are worried there might be another ban soon, etc.

Its a rifle so its alot easier to be accurate with and alot more powerful than a handgun. They're easy to shoot, very popular so they're very customizable. It is the easiest gun to build to your exact preferences with so many options out there. The recoil is low so they're even easy for beginners to shoot.

    Short answer: buy one ;)

Military, media, internet guys all hype it up. Thats probably why I owned 4 of them at one point :o :noes:

But I think they are awesome rifles. They are accurate, looks great, feels great, huge after market, and a whole bunch of other things. And I am saying this while owning a neutered one. :o

    I bought mine because :

    - the ammo isn't horribly expensive
    - reasonably accurate
    - easy to shoot
    - always wanted one
    - pisses people off when you tell them you own one.

I doubt it too, but i'll be praying that it does, otherwise reloading will become quite the hobby

I'll probably be joing the AR crew soon and really the main draw for me is the ease at which they can be customized and modifed and the massives array of manufacturers and aftermarket around for them

go to a range that rents or find a buddy that has one that you don't know about and shoot it, you'll want one too.

Yeah I have a 1000+ rounds sitting here in the closet and know what it cost
    me.

It's not the cheapest, but it's far from the worst.

Welcome to the future of marketable metals. I don't see it going down ever again. The cheapest ammo is a flood of surplus anyway, not a new vast supply of manufactured recent ammo, you know?

same price as I've been buying it lately......I dunno....the price doesn't kill
me. I know the .303 I've purchased was a ton more, as was .308.

    Dunno....doesn't really bother me yet.

I been tempted at many times to buy one of California's Legal ""Neutered"" Ar's. Don't know, something about the ten round limit and the reloading process keeps me away. If I lived somewhere else, I probably already own like 4 and my credit cards max out.
