MIL question about army apft

    Does anyone know if its ok to have your chest touch the ground? im not talking about resting, more like touching it for a split second before coming back up.

    you chest has to be about 2-3 inches off the ground.

    yeah thats what i thought. there were some guys coming back from basic who claimed that their DS insisted their chest touch the ground before coming up during the apft.

    Our DS did that several times during training. In fact, each DS that was grading us during our APFT, had their own version of what was "correct". So your mileage may vary. :hsd:

    Yes it can touch the ground, it's fine as long as you don't stop there. Mine pretty much has to for me to get low enough to do a "correct" push-up.

    wouldn't it make it easier to do the pushup? you could just drop and bounce back up. Even for lean people like me, it would up my scores by at least 10.

ON THE COMMAND ‘GET SET,’ ASSUME THE FRONT-LEANING REST POSITION BY PLACING YOUR HANDS WHERE THEY ARE COMFORTABLE FOR YOU. YOUR FEET MAY BE TOGETHER OR UP TO 12 INCHES APART. WHEN VIEWED FROM THE SIDE, YOUR BODY SHOULD FORM A GENERALLY STRAIGHT LINE FROM YOUR SHOULDERS TO YOUR ANKLES. ON THE COMMAND ‘GO,’ BEGIN THE PUSH-UP BY BENDING YOUR ELBOWS AND LOWERING YOUR ENTIRE BODY AS A SINGLE UNIT UNTIL YOUR UPPER ARMS ARE AT LEAST PARALLEL TO THE GROUND.     So to answer the question, yes you can touch the ground...do not rest there...bouncing is fine.
