hi I have a rebel xt and I was wonder, if the aperture is limited to the lense, how is it I am still able to put my aperture value on my camera beyond the maximum setting of the lense?

    thanks

How did you find the max is 36?

And yes I thought 5.6 was the max :mamoru:

That f/stop number you are reading is minimum aperature RANGE!

so if you have a 3.5 thru 5.6 that means you can have that range of minimum aperature depending on zoom. So at full zoom on whatever lens you are using, it'll be 5.6 and the opposite with minimum zoom.

At least this is the way I understand it.

The number listed is the biggest it will open (which is a smaller number). Obviously it isnt hard for the lense to make the aperture smaller by closing the blades a bit (which is a bigger number).
