My girlfriend has a fairly new Dell Dimension 9150. It did not come with a Windows recovery disc. The image is stored in a hidden partition on the hardrive. Is there any way to make a copy of that image in the event that the original hardrive were to fail?

The dell restore has a lot of checks in place, a lot that will be covered in that article. I know that it won't restore unless your partitions are setup exactly the way they were from the factory so you'd have to get a hard drive of the same size as the original.

If you're concerned you might want to buy a copy of Norton Ghost yourself and make your own image.

If it's running ghost you should be able to make an image of the harddrive and burn it to DVD... if not pick up a copy of ghost or True Image (can get the trial to make the backup for free from their site)
