A&P Question about 40D...

Discussion in 'Lifestyle' started by coughlin's law, Feb 24, 2008.

  1. I've been reading about it on and off, and I'm wondering...

    1. Would a 40D be close to a full frame sensor?

    2. If I made an upgrade from my XT to a 40D, could I still use my Sigma 10-20mm?

    3. On a XT, you multiply the crop sensor 1.6x by the lens focal length (I.E a 70-200mm on a XT becomes 112-320) Would using a 70-200 on a 40D ACTUALLY be 70-200?

    Thanks.

1 . No its the exact same 1.6x as your xt.

    2.Yes . 10 is really 16mm .

    3. Refer to #1 .

    1. No. 40d is 1.6x crop sensor. so no where close to full frame.

    2. Yes.

    3. 40d had the same ratio crop sensor as the XT, so no difference in the presumed "focal measurement". the only way to get "true" mm measurements is to put it on a full frame camera. 5d, 1d, etc

You didn't specify if you were considering purchasing one (not specifically), but based on the questions you asked, stick with whatever you've got right now.

Or skip the 40D and just go to a 1DS MKIII... everyone needs one.

Yes it can. So can the XT, which is actually in question. It still fucking sucks...period. Small, 3fps, plastic, slow to process, horrible buffer and no wheels. It's a fine camera if you do something that allows you to take 20 seconds composing each shot.

    5d: Small, 3fps, non-weathersealed, slow to process.

does that make the 5d shitty too?

    :werd: that's why I have a 40D and not a 5D

IMO the only thing the 5D has going for it over the 40D is fool frame :o

canon really needs to update the 5D

FPS is key for a lot of shooters.

If I had to pick one camera I would pick a 1DMK3 over a 1DsMK3

then you are made of fail. unless you shoot sports, FPS means dick squat. hell, i know some published automotive racing photographers that will use a 5d cause the colors are way better than the 1dmkii (this was before the n and the mkIII were out)

Jesus. Stop focusing on the FPS. That is a huge part or it, yes. Not having a second wheel for aperture control slows me down, having a small buffer slows me down, waiting 10,15,20 seconds to view a batch of RAW shots slows me down. That is why the XTI/XI sucks for me.
