just like the question asks. I kind of wonder if my quad may be defective, it doesn't feel as impressive.

Takes 10 seconds for me, AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.8ghz, 1.5gb of RAM, 7200rpm HD. 7 seconds doesn't seem like much improvement...

However, correct me if I'm wrong, but opening a single application with a dual or quad core CPU doesn't make it open any faster than a single core CPU, right? The advantages are seen when using multiple applications?

actually applying effects and rendering will use the multiple cores. Single threads will not see an improvement.

You guys realize throwing cores at launching an app does all but nothing to speed it up right? That's disk I/O - sustained read speed and randoms seek performance there. Uncached my Dual 3.2 Xeon slings open CS3 in under 3 seconds on a 15K SCSI - My far faster 8-way Mac Pro takes 10 or so on the 500GB 7200.

so you guys are saying loading programs are more HDD intensive?

    I should have known that...

    I'm running windows XP 64 bit on a Q6600 and a 7200.1rpm seagate
