so, my xbox just automatically shut off and gave me 2 red rings for overheating. (first time ever.) I turned it off and back on and it loaded up no prob---of course i then turned it off to let it cool down.

question: is it basically a forgone conclusion that either

    a) it is going to now always overheat after being on for an hour or so?
    b) i will get the full-blown death in my near future?

I appreciate any light that can be shined upon this.

Yeah it will keep doing it until the heat ruins the solder connecting the processors to teh board and you get the RRoD.

Put it somewhere that doesn't heat up like crazy.

I did this, I just inserted a note in the box that said it switches from 2 rings to 3 rings occasionally. No questions asked, they fixed it up.

    :'(

So sorry, it's on it's way out. Well if your still under warrenty you could send it in for a 2Red Ring error and they'd make it live longer. Actually if you want to be extra secure after you get it back you'll be back in a 90 day warrenty and then you can extend your warrenty for an extra year for like $26 bucks :p

lol, yeah if it's RROD then you get an extend warrenty. They're more likely to help you.
