I want to relive my HS days and reinstall some of my stereo stuff. I've got a 97 Taurus with one of those oval stereo plates with the guts in the trunk:ugh: wtf? Anyone deal with this setup?

metra has a kit with the harness, and don't freak out if it cost a chunk.

Yeah, it looks like complete ass installed. I'm wondering about the 15 foot long wiring harness that comes with it:rofl: At that point I might as well go all out and I really dont want to do that. I just want to install some subs.

If you just want subs then just get a line level converter (?) hooks into your rear speaker wire and outputs left and right RCA for your amp. It will not sound nearly as good if you were using an aftermarket deck with rca preouts but if you just want subs then it would be the easiest cheapest way.

Naw, I'm hooking up decent enough stuff that it nees to be hooked up to a real headunit. I'd prefer 4v+ preamp outputs. Its a slippery slope with this stuff trying not to go too crazy. I'm breaking out the old Phoenix Gold zx500. Its a classic, but it was one of the best. My options for subs are either:
    • 3 JL Audio 10w6's (ported box - insane loud but crappy sq)
    • 3 JL Audio 10w0's (not as loud or low, but very tight)
    • 2 JL Audio 10w3's (probably what I'll go with)

I've got some Image Dynamic horns and 6.5"s that I paid a fortune for back in the day that make an awesome front stage.

This stuff gets out of hand real fast. Those tweeters are over $400/ pair alone.

i had a 98 for a couple years... the deck install is not that bad, it doesn't even take an hour.

as long as you don't have the digital a/c controls you're fine. it's not the most fun to do, but it's about like running RCA's and such.
