and for the most part it went well. I used (I assume it was shitty) cheap FMJ target ammo that I bought at the range and at the store where I bought the gun. About 25 rounds were Blazer, 50 were Winchester, and 50 were a brand I do not remember.

At this point I should say I am for the most part a pistol noob. I have shot a lot of rifles and shotguns in my time, and a few .22 autoloader pistols and revolvers and a big Ruger .45 auto that I couldn’t hit anything with. This is the first gun I have owned myself.

Now I said for the most part it went well. However, the gun jammed twice, where the spent casing did not eject all the way out of the gun and once got caught between the chamber and the slide, and once was sort of partially still in the chamber. I was/am not happy about this, as it’s a brand new gun. I assume its either the shitty ammo, or user error, as I may be occasionally limp wristing it or something.

    So… thoughts?

I have not had a round stay in the chamber in my glock... However I have had a two or three cheap american eagle rounds not eject all the way, and get caught between the slide and barrel. When I run through better Federal Premium ammo I have never had a single problem. For me, one or two out of several hundred is acceptable for range use. I leave good ammo in it when not at the range, and I have absolute faith in that. I say, when at the range, save the money.

My XD9 has eaten over 8000 rounds (I lost count long ago) without a single
failure using tons of Winchester White Box, Remington UMC, a few Blazer,
    and a few Federal HST.

Odd that you're having problems, it's certainly unusual for the XDs to be acting
    that way.

yeah I agree. practice is key, and practicing more cheaply makes one more likely to practice.

Also there was another strange incident. Before any of the jams, one of the Winchester rounds had the primer go off and sort of make a sizzling sound and smoke, but the round did not fire. I kept the gun pointing downrange for like a minute. it scared the shit out of me. I took the round to the guy working at the range and he said it was indeed a “defective ass bullet”. he took it and put in on a counter I assume for a boss to look at.

Maybe....but even when I've intentionally limp-wristed my XD it didn't have
any issues. I've fired it pretty much every way but upside down.

Clean it like any pistol.....it field strips pretty easily.

I wonder if maybe your misfire cooked hot enough to maybe do some damage
    to the pistol?

Go to a hunting/outdoor store/walmart and buy an Outers 9mm pistol cleaning kit.

Will have a cleaning rod, brush, swabs, cleaner, oil and whatnot. That'll get
you a good start on cleaning.

I was just sort of brainstorming on the possible problem with the fizzling round,
but it might explain some things. I would look for discoloration to the
barrel interior as well as possible issues with the extractor(little hook thing
you see when the slide is open and you're looking down into the mag well)

The range probably reloads their own ammo... so when you buy "assorted" ammo in bags, you're really buying their reloads. Even though the casing was made by winchester, it doesn't make it a factory load. That is probably why he placed it on the counter for "inspection".

cool, I will get the kit...

The chamber and barrel interior interior don't look bad...just a little gray...

of course I don't know what i'm looking for.

I just had the slide off for the first time...it looks pretty clean. there is alot of oil on it from the factory...maybe too much??

    extractor looks fine

    there are others.

for 9mm it's hard to be the winchester white box from WalMart in most cases.

I think there was alot of "grease" in the gun...probably put it there so it wouldn't rust while sitting in a store for an undetermined amount of time. I got as much as I could out with a napkin and I'll clean the crap out of it whenever I can.

tomorrow get a good hops i think its spelled kit and take the gun apart and clean it and then oil it, over oil it and rack the slide about 25 time to make sure the oil penetrates. Clean off any excess. Sometimes they ship the guns not as lubed as they should be. I know my xd needed to be lubed a little when I got it and I know that all of my colts came so lubed it was leaking onto the bags they came in.

I checked their site out, and they seem more expensive than the local shops for my 40S&W.... I pay $10.39 per box of 50 for American Eagle in either 165 or 180 grain (~$0.21 per round). That comes to $103.90 for 500 rounds, no shipping, no tax, pick up same day as order. The best ammoman.com can do is $149.00 (~$0.30 per round). Even when you order 1000 rounds, they charge $249.00 (~$0.25 per round). And locally, I don't have to buy bulk -- I can buy just a box, if I wanted to (yea right, lol). Kinda crazy that I save 9¢ each round by buying local. Any other places online that would be worth checking?

So far, the only round I find worth buying online is the Federal Tactical -- and only because local shops refuse to sell it to non-LEOs.

even though they say shipping is free...one is clearly paying for it in the price.
