I went to the dealership and test drove a

    Jeep Liberty 2005
    xterra 2005

Not a big fan of the steering in the Xterra. I did find the Liberty to handle well and it seemed to have a decent amount of power to it.... but it was just a test drive on a straight route.

I am looking to spend between 10-12k

I also saw they had a Renegade. Are the Jeeps a good reliable suv?

Get a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 if you must have a Jeep.

the Xterra is a good choice.

You could get a really nice Tahoe/Yukon for that price.

Well I have 2 kids which is why I wanted to get a SUV, both young enough to be in car seats so I needed the room, stroller + car seats, and shopping demand me to have room.

Is there something wrong with the Jeep Liberty 2005?

people in here will tell you that the 3.7 V6 is weak and the liberty is not a real jeep.

besides for that, it's like any other mall cruiser.

jeeps have always been pretty reliable for me.
I went camping with a girl a few times and we took her xterra, and i had never driven one before.
the steering could use improvment, but for the entire camping/off-roading experience, it was awesome.
if your looking for more of a family car though, i definantly recommend a jeep Grand Cherokee
