Is it possible for me to take a PT test with an alternate event even though I'm only on a Temp. profile?

No, an alternate event has to be assigned by an MMRB or PEB. A temp profile does exempt you from doing whatever event you can't do, but you can't take a record test unless your profile ends or you get a permanent.

I tore my PCL in my knee back in June. I have no stability and still can't bend my leg all the way. I can run for about 10min or until I fall over from lack of stability which ever comes first.

I know when I was in they offered the swim to doing the run. So you'd still be able to do the sit/reach, situps, pushups and then do the swim instead.

I had to do the swim one year not entirely by choice but because of ships schedule. We were only in port long enough for advancement exams and the PT test (all of this in a weeks time). I was the junior E-4 in the division so I kinda got screwed on when I could get away from Duty section ie I was always covering someone's duty. So I took the swim, still scored Excellent.

Now, if you really really wanted to take a record, you could...given the commander approves of the record APFT with full knowledge of the profile. You assume risk because if your knee fails at the 1.5 mile marker on the run and you can't complete the event, you will fail the event and be subject to seperation from the US Army.

Note above if the injury has been longer than 3mo you can petition your Commander for an alternate event untill you heal completely.

As to who assigns Permant Profiles:
