I have already set my comp up to play the video from the HDD on the comp. But, I need to move my videos/movies, music, etc to an external HDD to free up some room. Is there a way I can play these from the external HDD? Does it need to be tied into the comp, or can I just plug it into the PS3 usb port?

    thanks

In order for the PS3 to see the drive it needs to be formatted in FAT32.

You have to have folders on the drive named like the folders in the PS3 as well. ie: Picture, Music, Video and Game. The PS3 will only see content in those folders.

Once all that is set up you should be able to just plug it into the USB port.
