I liked the light and dark combat system in eternal sonata plus the story line is pretty cool

I've read it's a blend of real time and turn based combat.

    Seems pretty legit tho.

    Thanks, will try.

Never use my 360 anymore, but if there are any RPG's similar to the FF series I might just wipe the dust off of it.

    Any suggestions?

The same way people find Risk, Chess or Checkers fun. It invovles strategy and thinking.

Eternal Sonata, Tales of Vesperia being released for PS3 Q1 2010, Disgaea 3 is a good sRPG from what I hear. Also, FF7 and FFT on PSN.

Theres valkyria chronicles. I havent played it yet but I heard its a good RPG for the PS3. Other than that I dunno. Besides that, play some PS2 rpgs, they're a library of them.

It is like a mix of Tactics with RPG and third person shooter.

"Though movement and conflicts take place in a turn-based manner, the actual battles involve the sort of aiming and firing more commonly reserved for first-person shooters."

    Also seems legit.

    Thanks, will try.

Eternal Sonata and Valkyria Chronicles are the only good ones currently unfortunately.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope is coming out in 2 months though. Will be one disk and include the Japanese VAs and more stuff

You should grab that one for sure.

I'd definitely recommend Valkyria Chronicles... it can be a little frustrating at times though  I haven't finished it yet, always try it for a few days and then move back to another game.

Fuck, I forgot about Star Ocean. I thought Q4 2009 was going to be bad in terms of amount of games coming out that I want to play, Q1 2010 is going to be bruuuuutal. :wtc:

I hate real time combat in RPG's. There is so little strategy. It is all about what level you are and how fast you can smack the buttons. Turn based is all about strategy as others have posted.

As for the original question, very little RPGs on the PS3. There are a ton on the PS2 however. Persona 3 and 4 both are pretty recent and are amazing. In fact, I find myself playing my PS2 or PSP way more then anything else because of all the RPGs that have been coming out on them.

And Valkyria Chronicles for 20 bucks is an amazing deal.

Resonance of Fate is slated for release on 3/9 as well. That is Tri-Ace's new RPG that looks pretty damn nice.

I agree, I dunno if we're on the exact same page or not but I agree.

the standard turn-based jrpg setup is what I like in an rpg. I hated FF12's system of "set your characters up so you don't do a fucking thing during battle" big time.

Some games do extra things with their turn-based gameplay. Chrono Cross/Legend of Legaia you could select a series of attacks/combos, DBZ Attack of Saiyans has a blocking system, mario rpg had the button-before hit for extra damage thing, etc. I like games that do things like this while still keeping the traditional jrpg setup.

Oh and yeah, the ps3 sucks for rpg's. Should have went with a 360 bra.

Sucks. I hated the combat, and I hated the "story." Instead of feeling like I was saving the world I felt like I was saving nothing from something that probably wouldn't have been that bad in the first place. I quit playing after ~15hrs or so.
