My drive didn't exactly fail but the one and only time I ever rented a blu-ray movie my PS3 wouldn't play it. As soon as I inserted the movie it went to a black screen and said "cannot play video" or some shit. Tried to mess with the settings for an hour but was never able to make it play. I hope it was just the disc and my PS3 won't be doing that with every blu-ray movie. So far that's the only one I tried to play on my PS3.
My PS3 did this weird snow static screen the other day for like 15 seconds. I almost shit my pants I was so scared.
YLOD before, right now good *knocks on wood*.
video card is failing, worse than ylod
drive died on my brother's 60gb. he paid someone from craigslist $40 to fix it.
Mine does that every time I turn it off (for like half a second right before the screen goes blank). It only does it when connected through HDMI though.
I thought this was another anti-bluray thread.
my old 40 gig's blu-ray drive also stopped reading. Sold the system for $120 with 2 games online... I think i could of fixed it by maybe opening it up and cleaning the lens. Anyways, i dint take the risk and bought a slim instead :/
Same shit happened to me. Since mine is one of the BC ones, I'm gonna try to fix it. You can find the BR drives online for like $55-60 pretty much everywhere and there are instructions on how to do it yourself too.
I will cry if my original 80GB dies. I rely on it for backward compatibility
