    So I was told that

"At 115lb, and trying to gain weight you should consume atleast:
    175g Protein,
    250g Carbs
daily from whole foods and shakes."

I just finish calculating my today's consumption.. well it's not exact since I didnt include my dinner (home cook chinese food, kinda hard to figure it out)

    Total
    Calories 1995
    T Fat 73
    Cholesterol 602.5
    Sodium 3225
    Potassium 510
    T Carb 88.5
    Sugar 36.5
    Protein 119.5

So should I be eating more fruits, dairy produts, vegi, and bread to increase my protein and carbs?

What did you eat? If you had homemade chinese food with any sort of noodles/rice, I can guarantee you that your carbs were over 88 grams.

Grams of carbs don't matter. Carbs are not an essential nutrient

You should aim for 1g of protein for every 1lb body weight = in your case, 115g

You should aim for 0.5g fat for every 1lb body weight = 60g a day for you

Feel free to go higher than these values. They are the MINIMUM reccommended values. 175g protein and 150g fat a day will do you no harm at all. Increasing fats is a good way to get the calories up too since they are more dense than protein/carbs.

Excess fat DOES NOT make you fat. You need fats for vitamin storage, cell membrane formation, hormone synthesis etc etc etc.. they are essential.

Carbs are non-essential as your body can derive them from other sources. Therefore there are no minumum required intakes for carbs. Set them wherever you want or whatever is more comfortable for you once you have the appropriate amounts of fat and protein.

That's the first thing i thought. 88g of carbs a day is not normal for someone who is'nt restricting anything, that's like just one bowl of cereal :hsugh: It's probably alot more than that

You can't eat 150g of fat and get good results, imo, if you're not on a ketogenic diet.

    High fat?

Look at Timberwolf :eek3: He eats around 120g of fat when cutting :mamoru:

Granted they are good sources from Flaxseed ect.

Though, comparing Timberwolf to any mere mortal means nothing

    Why not?

He's bulking so he needs the extra calories.

If you got fat on a bulk you:
    Ate too many calories
    Didn't get enough protein
    Didn't train properly

That's true but if he's looking to bulk a little, he might need the carbs to get both energy and an anabolic environment.

True. I didn't say he should avoid them.. he just shouldn't worry about getting a certain number per day.

I bet Timber is also low-carbing when cutting if he's eating that much fat.

Some food you'll learn to love : tuna, chicken, eggs, egg whites, lean meat, whey, etc. It's in the stickies.

Yeah, but they give plenty of vitamins, antioxidants, fiber and feeling of satiety. I eat 250 g of carbs a day and 90% of it come from fruits/veggies.
They also tend to lower the acidity of your blood which results from a high protein intake (among other things).

That's a shitload of veggies. How much are you estimating you eat, and how much of it is from fruit?

I always eat ton of veggies and my intake depends on what's usually on sale. Most of it come from lettuce, spinach, peppers, onions, zucchini, cucumber, apples once or twice a day, also green beans and baby carrots which add cals a bit faster. I love to eat and I like the fact that I can eat a shitload of it. I get 200-250 g of carbs a day but there are some carbs that come from somewhere else though, like whey for example.
And I'm not that much estimating, 1/2 I weigh it and the other half I just eat a whole veggie and estimate its size (I just have to chose if it's small, medium or large...). I check from time to time to make sure my estimations are good and they are since I usually eat the same thing.

It's true. Our body can do "well" without carbs for some time because we don't really need it since it only acts as fuel. If we don't have enough carbs, dietary fat can be used as fuel or the body uses the fat everybody wants to get rif of or we can even produce some glucose from amino acids. We need fat and protein for lots of body functions though (enzymes, hormones, tissues, etc).
