My wife is looking at becoming more serious with her workouts, and wants to up her protein intake. Is there any difference in the type of protein a female needs in regards to muscle building, and does anyone recommend a specific brand? She just ordered a product called Lean Dessert from BSN, anyone familiar with this company?

Women have less lean bodymass than men so she should eat less protein than a seriously bodybuilding man, maybe 100-140 grams a day. Animal sources are best.

Have her eat some whey protein, women don't need any different type of protein.

soy protein is thought to cause higher estrogen levels. Why she'd want that I don't know, but regular whey is fine.

I am surprised it took 3 replies for a jizz joke to surface. I am a little disappointed in OT.

    Why whey?

Whey is the most "anabolic," and the cheapest.

Chances are goo d that you are taking it, right?? She can just take the same shit you take. Easier in the long run, less big huge protein jugs laying around.

Out of curiosity what kind of program is she following?? My GF was looking to get in shape for summer here, which starts in a month or two?! I was thinking a low weight higher rep routine, mostly compound lifts would be OK. Any ideas guys??

No, I do not take protein. I am getting ready for a 3rd shoulder surgery, and have not be able to do any upper body training for over 2 years. My training is all cardio and ab work right now.

Not sure what her workout plan is. I try to not get involved to much. I don't want to be that husband that comes across as pushing his wife to workout. Whatever she is doing is working.

Here is her bodybuilding.com page she made today.

Why whey? Because it's just protein. You're looking too much into this.

You're talking to a guy that never really worried about things like proteins shakes. I am asking because I want to get the best product for my wife.

Well most protein powders are pretty much the same. They have some carbs and fat in them, usually in the form of flavouring. At the end of the day, it won't matter whether yours has 4g of carbs or 6g of carbs because her diet is likely more off than that and that will be where the weak link is.

If you want to move to isolates, which are 90-100% protein it's going to cost extra, and isn't typically all that beneficial for most people. There are also some "deluxe" proteins which have great tastes (I believe there was one that actually tasted like cake) and are nearly isolates as well, and you're paying out the ass for quality like this.

Really, your wife won't see any benefit from using an isolate or deluxe protein powder over one from Optimum Nutrition or similar. Just don't go get her a weightgainer (which are different by the amount of carbs/fats in there, typically atleast matching protein and exceeding it on the nutrition label) like cytogainer or BSN cellmass or something.

Dessert sucks and tastes like ass. We are using it now at home because we ran out of stuff that tasted better.

For home we use MSM protein because the Max Msucle store is about 2 minutes from the house.

My wife's breakfast every day is: protein, raspberries, peanut butter, half a banana, ice, and water blended into a shake.
