MMA Protective Cup use in MMA?

I know muay thai fighters usuall wear cups in the ring... Is this true in MMA? I've never worn one before and I'm curious if it feels restricting or uncomfortable. I've seen instances in which dudes have taken a kick to the nuts and looked like it hurt pretty bad, so I'm assuming at least some fighters don't. Is there a rule on this for Pride/UFC?

I'm almost positive it is a rule to wear them. I know I've always worn one in training, regardless of MT or Grappling.

It looks like it hurts bad, because it really fucking hurts, even wearing a cup. I'd assume most all kicks that hit the groin are accidental leg kicks, and aren't going to be light kicks. If a full force kick even glances your cup, it's going to hurt for a very long time.

They have to wear them. Hell the ref sometimes checks.

    Fixed.

In the UFC they check outside the octagon. In Pride they check in the ring.

    yeah it's required.

usually you'll see either the fighter tap/knock on his crotch or...
the ref will tap/knock on the fighters' nuts :hsugh:

  6. Yes it's required. It still hurts because they are kicking hard as hell. When their kicks can move 300lb bags a plastic cup isn't going to offer much protection. It's there mostly for incidental contact

I started wearing one while sparring and while it dosen't restrict that much movement It still bothers me to wear it. Better than loosing a nut though :dunno:
