I really like the styling. dsg tranny = good for daily. How good is the motor? suspension? How much are people getting them OTD?

I've had my GTI now for 14 months and 31k miles.

The factory motor is a peach!! Predictable, plenty of usable torque and insane gas mileage. Highest I've seen to date is 35 MPG.

That peach will quickly turn into a beast!! With a few minor items (Intake, Exhaust, Intercooler and Software) you'll find that the motor comes into it's own! At the moment my GTI is putting down 260 WHP and 310 WTR, and will still do 30 MPG.

I lowered it using Koni's FSD's and paired to Eibach Springs. There is no rake to the stance of the car, and the ride is equal to or better than factory. I would like to get the Hotchicks (SP?) Sway Bar set, but time will tell on that. On the whole, the car needs to be lowered. It rides a bit too high to be truly effective in the bends.

As far as the DSG, I've added a secondary cooler for it and it hasn't missed a beat at all! I would strongly recommend something similar to anyone wanting to "tinker" with the drive-train.

Love it. It is the future of transmissions. No questions asked, no discussion needed. It does NOT, however, replace the sensation of satisfaction that a full-on manual transmission offers.

3300 pounds on the scale, no driver and a full-tank of gas. It is safe...and mine will still cut 13.8 1/4 miles. ;)

Yes, and with no traction in 1st. Assuming that I could ever get the car to hook-up, I believe she is good for low 13's.

For drag racing, you'll find the DSG a tad slow off the line. Once it's going though...hold on!

So is the chip/software something you can install yourself or do you have to go to a tuner and get them to do it?

My Friend Danny just got the R32 DSG GTI. He likes it but keeps saying he should have gotten the GTI 2.0T with the 6spd instead. He like the DSG but feel that it disconnects you from driving pleasure. I really like the 2.0t with DSG you can get one with package 0 for 22K new if you haggel. I only know this because Danny works for VW and told me that would be my price if I wanted one.

i have the A3, and the first gear hookup is ehhh. too much power no traction. I would suggest going 235's or maybe 245's for better traction in front. I used to run 235's now i run 225

stage 2's can get 13.7's with a good lauch and DSG. They are great cars and amazing for a daily driver. I wouldn't want any other car on the market for under 33k.

235's and 245s would rub like mad. I rub slightly while parking with 225's.

also, Phil from BSH agrees with me on this, that my new 08 is a "factory freak." My 07 never pulled like this did stock.

but the DSG is worth the money. Trust me. It is also a lot stronger then most people used to think, tuning companies are running BT setups on a stock dsg and on a track for thousands of miles already. Stage 2 is perfectly safe. Also, the stock FMIC is not that bad. Most people see minimal gains with an aftermarket front mount. Once new clutches are available for DSG, it is going to be a viscous car.

The only thing I disagree with you is that lowering springs don't make the ride quality worse. Lowering car makes it ride closer to the bump stops and makes it handle slightly worse.

tuner shops just plug in their laptops into your car and upload it, then tweak some settings during a short test drive. much easier then having to physically remove the ECU and solder the chip to it like in older VAG cars

Pros is it's all around a good car (speed and reliability). Cons, is you can get a much faster but less reliable car for cheaper. New body style is ugly if you ask me

but it's a mazda, very tincy car and just doesn't have the overall package that the gti has.
