hey guys, i am starting to order parts for my new computer. i began thinking that one of those small cases would be better. i know that an obvious plus is that it is smaller. im also assuming they are a tad more expensive than a regular tower. i only plan to have 2 hard drives at the most, likely only 1 hard drive. in addition, a CD burner and possibly a floppy drive. will all these fit into one of those boxes?

    pros and cons?

    thanks!

horrible. It's way too much heat to stick in such a confined place. They have thermal issues with "meh" specs so if you want a decent one then it's gonna be absolute shit. Don't do it.

It really boils down to the case you choose.

Depending on budget, you can make a really sweet build with one of those.

If you're going to go with the small cases, I would highly recommend a micro atx Intel board.

I've got one running in a mini Antec case, and it's been just perfect.

Right now, it's just the onboard video with a 74gb Raptor and an E4400 C2D.

But for the first 6 months that I ran it, it had an E6600 with a 7900GT and the Raptor.

    Ran like a Swiss watch.

I don't have any experience with the "cube" micro-atx cases, but I do have two comments that might be useful:

    1. Micro-ATX sucks if you want to build a really good computer, because manufacturers have a really hard time packing all the features from a regular ATX motherboard into the smaller Micro-ATX space. As such, they usually don't bother trying.

    2. I had a Micro-ATX tower case and it got about 25C hotter, on average, than the regular ATX case that I replaced it with. 25C isn't bad, per se, but when it puts the CPU temperature up at 80C under full load, it gets right toasty in the surrounding area. (I was actually proud that I had a computer that could get so hot without crashing, but I'm weird.)

Shose are called SFF computers. (SFF = Small Form Factor)

I have one, and yes, heat can be an issue, but lately, I've been getting random BSODs when the room temp goes up. (and I have 2 HDs)

My Antec case has inside dimensions of 12.5 x 13.5 inches.
    It's very small.

But in the front there are two 92mm fans, and in the rear there's a 120mm fan.

My E6600 C2D ran at the exact same temps in there that it does in a full size case. (43C - 45C)

And I have the small Antec modded for 3 drives, plus I had a 500gb Seagate on it's side.

So what it all boils down to imo, is that if you have good airflow, you'll maintain good temps.
