Im am currently 19, and have been tossing back and forth the idea of getting a CCW when I turn 21. My question is: What are the clear cut benefits and sucess stories, of having a Concealed Carry Weapon, and what are the disadvantages? Some people are telling me that, "Oh it will cause you more harm than good. What if they take it from you?" That of course is possible, but is bullshit. I didnt take 2 years of Russian Combat Training (Systema) to have poor enough situational awarness to let someone take my hypothetical gun.

This goes out to those who have CCWs, and I suppose those that dont, just no asshats who want to troll.:ugh:

2 whole years of Russian Combat Training???

There are a few downsides to having a CCW permit and carrying a gun every day but they all suck a lot less than wishing you had a gun on you when you really need one.

:squint: Well when you go 4 times a week at 1 1/2 hours a day. And have a full time one on one Trainer whos mentor was Spetznaz himself, I guess you could say it adds up. :o

What do you have to say for yourself, in terms of self defense?

Only downsides are having to dress accordingly to keep your weapon concealed and spending the cash on a good holster or holsters that are comfortable.

word. I dont think there are any downsides. If you conceal it properly you shouldnt have to worry about anyone taking it since they shouldnt know where its at.

Im not 100% sure but I belive thats not completely legal. At least in FL. I think they want you to keep it concealed, to avoid panic.

even if your state allows open carry, i'm pretty sure there are some instances when it would be frowned upon...

There is no downside. If you intend to ever carry. If you get it, you can choose to carry legally, or not carry, its up to you.

If you dont get it, you cant carry legally.

So might as well get it even if you dont think you are going to use it.

It's better to have a gun on you and never need it...than to not have a gun when you need it.

well here in the good ole state of ky you can carry a handgun with a permit for the weapon as long as it is un concealed. You dont even need a ccw

But really, I started a thread to talk about CCWs. I was not being a dick. Get ur shit straight.

    Shacklemenot: I appologise.

There, now that we've dispensed with the BS, can we move on?

I still dont see any cons. You have the choice to USE the permit or not, but your not penalized for not carrying. So just get it. If i wasnt in CA id try to get one when im 21.

and BTW, he didnt start anything, he was jsut interested in how you got 2 years of russian training. Chill out.

you dont need any kind of permit to carry a handgun here in Arizona. If you dont have a CCW you can carry it on you as long as its holstered and visible from 3 sides. and when transporting it needs to be in a locked compartment and preferrably unloaded.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I am just trying to get a feel for some of the reasons you guys may have acquired your CCW.

i would have one just in case, or just because it would allow me more freedom w/ my handgun.

Plus i live a few miles from East Palo Alto. For those who dont know. its a 2.5mi long city (small) that has had 13 homicides so far this year. Last YEAR TOTAL was 6. so its crazy with all the gang shit going on.

But its CA, ill never get a CCW.

Yeah, I definately agree with that. It is better to have the option to go packing, than not. California doesnt recognize CCWs from other states?

They barely honor thier OWN CCW's. The People's Republik Of Kalifornia... sad really... That state would be perfect with out A) More stupid laws than most other states, B) Cost of living, and of course C) Traffic.

Why the hell does the government have to be so shitty in such a nice location... *sigh*
