Sorry about the noob question, but I never really got the position correctly to do my push-ups the most effectively. How far should my arms be apart, how far should I go down, etc. ?

How far apart you put your hands determines what muscle group you're focusing on. Wider focuses on chest, closer focuses on triceps. I try to go down to the point where my nose touches the ground, hold that for a second, and come back up.

Also effective when you're watching a movie and feeling restless.

I always do pushups when I get bored, after a run, or I have nothing else better to do.
