    T-mag Deadlift article
Vid of deadlift (not necessarily perfect form)

    And I would add:

    14) Keep feet pointed slightly outwards, but not too much.

    15) Don't bounce at the bottom. It'll kill your knees

    T-mag Squat Article
Video of a Squat (not necessarily perfect form)

quick mental check list from the resident PLer. I find i forget a few points every now and then so it's worth looking over if it's not engrained yet.

i'd like to learn how to properly do deadlifts before i add them to my workout, but i can honestly say i dont understand half of those quotes because of the abbreviations and bad grammar.

can someone with intelligence transcribe those instructions into a coherent post?

That is the simplest way i've ever seen it put, if you don't get it the only thing that is gonna help you is to watch a vid of someone doing it right and then coming back here and reading that again.

    read that too

The abbreviations and bad grammar weren't the problem, as he stated.. For someone new to deadlifts, it's hard to put all of that together in your mind, before you do it physically...

Go click on the video preemO posted in this thread:

    http://forums.offtopic.com/showthread.php?t=1227685

At the same time have the points christophers outlined available and read them while watching the video. You can then see what christophers is talking about more easily (regardless of whether or not preemO did or did not follow the form as outlined by christophers it will still be easier if you have the video to directly reference and watch)

thats why i told him to come back and read it again after watching the vid :bigthumb:
like tryfuhl said the reason he doesn't understand is that he can't picture it

i think the pull backwards thing is really helpful. too many people just want to get the weight up so they pull up like a row.

:werd: I probably do it too much - I'll have to keep that in mind.

Also, when you say belly full of air, I think I know what you mean, but could you elaborate?

The one thing that I don't understand is this: 11) you must then lead with the head, not the legs. the head must move first - the body follows the head

Is this just a mental reminder to not focus on your legs so much and remember it as pushing the rest of your body or are you actually supposed to turn into a giraffe? :o

I agree. I don't really like his bar position throughout the lift.

practice breathing standing up. when you inhale your belly should expand and not your chest.

and like someone said, you want a gut.

my friend loves it when I spot/watch him bang out a set of squats just because he wouldn't have the mental checklist otherwise.

if you move with your legs first you'll get outta groove. you want to initiate the motion from your head. it's hard to explain :hs:
