I decided to begin a new project chronicling the impact our financial economy has had on us and what we know. I began today with a short series of what financial hardships do to us, and what they make us do. They may seem "snap-shottish", but they have a purpose. It's something that means something to me. Hope you enjoy. This will be an ongoing project for 2009.

This was one of my favorite stores.

When I found this, I had to go back home to get my camera. It just saddened me.

A local grocer that has drastically reduced its business stake in this economy. I really enjoyed this store as well.

Thoughts? Any suggestions for future photos related to this? I'd like to keep this thread going as I plan for more of this.

i think its a great start, be sure to get some pictures of a closed chrysler/dodge/jeep/pontiac/saturn dealership(s). some closed factories would be good too.

I really like the theme you got going, #3 is awesome. Processing fits these images well, but I feel the vignette is a bit strong. Looking forward to more.

Had the same idea driving through NJ a few months back. It's gonna be interesting to look back at years down the line.

I appreciate the comments and suggestions.

Tits - I too was pondering the vignetting on the images, I'm going to have to see what I can come up with without it. Thanks for the recommendations. Truly.

It's raining out right now and there was a local sports/youth gymnasium that has gone under. I may go photograph it. Kind of sad. The owner was tearing up on the news. It was a good place with great intentions. :wtc:

A few in deliberate sequence from this afternoon. Good ol' Waynz World. Now turned Painters Union Hall

And the defining photo in my opinion.

I'm wondering if I can incorporate these into some kind of single piece.

Thanks guys. One thing I don't want to do with this product is oversaturate it with too many photos. I want to try and keep them meaningful. I think Photos like the 4 from Waynz World should be put into some kind of collage. And some like the Sentry photo should stay singular.

    What are your thoughts?

Wow, Waynz World closed?!?! That place opened up a year before I moved to KS. Sad to see, but I'm glad I don't live there anymore.

    Great pics Nicholas

    awesome series!!!

Although, I admittedly don't get this one...

There's no indication that it's out of business or shut down, and not just a normal Saturday.

Although I love how you incorporated the empty parking lot in the background...

Go back and put some chains on the doors, then shoot it again!

economy has nothing to do with those stores closing down, there are a shitload of stores that are still open

ex: best buy vs. circuit city

Yes, the economy has something to do with these stores shutting down.

I'm not saying "Wow it's sooo bad it's impossible to stay in business the economy has gone to complete shit no one can survive",

but it's just dumb to say it has nothing to do with it. People aren't spending as much anymore.

Yes, but saying the economy has nothing to do with it is completely wrong.
