I've been wanting to play with studio photography for a lil bit now, and I dont really have the resources to jump into buying all the lights and etc....so I was readin at work today on a cheap alternative to studio set ups and ran across this:

    http://www.studiolighting.net/foam-core-homemade-softbox/

SOOOOO, I decided to go to Michaels and Walmart tonight and start my own project....dirt cheap, studio lighting:big grin:

SOOOO, I have my utinsels....and stuff, and an empty downstairs and I am going to build my own studio :mamoru:

    So far I have:
3-30"x40" mat boards, and 1-20"x30" mat board ($27 for all)
1 King size black bed sheet for backdrop ($12)
1 twin white sheet for diffuser material ($3)

I am going to use the halogen shop lights I have and they have a tripod to hold them in the air....outside of that, I have everything else, tape, etc...

    Materials preconstruction:

    Wish me luck!

Ya, I will when I get home.....they are on my P&S camera.

Overall I am happy with everything, and I have about $45-50 into it all!

You could have achieved the same result with a 100W bulb. :dunno:

Ya I probably could have??? But I only have a 2.8 lense and only working with 400 ISO so the light sensitivity isnt near as close as your 2.0/1250iso....

    I am using these lights...

Here are a few pics of my set up, I havent wrapped the box yet, just drapped the cloth over it:

  20. and I thought my setup was ghetto

j/k not bad for only $50 and change invested in.

If I were you I'd watch out because I use a few of those shoplights for working around the house and they get HOT HOT HOTTT!!!

If you could afford 2 550ex's you could slap one on your camera and set it to master and throw a second one in the box set to slave and then boom you're all set!!!!!!!! :eek3: :bigthumb:

  21. Only have a 2.8 lens.. That's good don't need more than that. For my studio pics I'm usually using somewhere around f/4.5 to f/11, also I only use ISO 100. :big grin:

Ya I know, but your studio work is using a white back drop also, makes a huge difference....I was shooting mainly in 4.0 and 400ISO....

I turn off the lights after doing about 30 or 40 shots to let things cool down , hopefully I dont burn down my house!!:noes:

  23. I only have white backdrop? ORLY?

EDIT: nevermind... I'll pm it to you

    Make: Canon
    Model: Canon EOS 30D
    Size: 2336x3504
    Bytes: 2302857
    Aperture: f/7.1
    ISO: 100
    Focal Length: 24mm (guess: 40mm in 35mm)
    Exposure Time: 0.005s (1/200)
Flash: Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
    Exposure Program: Manual
    Exposure Bias: 0
    ExposureMode: 1
    White Balance: manual

But yeah the reason I don't need to shoot f/2.8 is because I have strobes. You should really look into strobes if you really want to get into doing portraits and stuff. Once you start with strobes and flash you'll be like :eek3: and wonder how you ever got any decent shots without using flash!

pictures appear to be out of focus.

also, if you simply connect your camera to your laptop they automatically import as each picture is taken?
