Im looking for scopes for my 17 HMR project and one of the ones I have in mind are the Tasco TG104050DS I've used a 24X from this line and its a nice scope for the money. But this is all new stuff to me so I'd like to hear some opinions, pros and cons, positives and negatives, about this scope. Is a 40X over kill for a 17? I like the fact its adjustable from 10 to 40... kinda covers all bases ya know?

For detailed info check out Tascos website @ Click Here

    Thanks!!!

I would question the clarity at the higher magnifications. I think 10x is plenty

I agree 10 is probably the way I SHOULD go. but I have the option of getting 40.... see what Im saying? LOL. I mean it would be a shame if i didnt go for the bigger better deal right? LOL

But at 140 how good could it be? I like I said I seen the 24x and its really clear and bright. I was impressed, so Im kinda hoping the 40 will be of the same caliber.

I'm doing some searching on Ebay and when I did a search for Tasco it comes up with all these other models thats not listed on their site... wtf? Like a 32X isn't listed on their site but there are a few on ebay. Then there are some listed as custom shop models that.... I found a 60X scope hahaha wow.

Talk about compensating for something! HAHAHA

  7. Tasco is junk and even a 10 power on a small caliber weapon like this is overkill.

you need something that doesn't cost over $100, has 40x magnification, with a lighted reticle, mildot, adjustable objective, side focus, target turrets, and enough parallax to kill a small child.

so i guess all of the 22 target shooters, with large scopes , are idiots also, right?

Large power scopes for small .22 or .17's are nice. I ended up with a cheaper simmons like 5-15ish power for my 10/22. it was right around $100 and works great for the job.

No its true, but someone told me with a HMR you want a alot of magnification I cant remember who it was and I forgot why. Something to do with accuracy and bullet drop or something??? I dunno thats why I asked OT, I guess. I know very little when it comes to scopes and rifles as I only own pistols and a shotgun. I'll probably go with a 24x or say screw everyone and get the 40x outta spite. LOL

My eyes aren't as good as they were when I was younger so I got the huge Barska scope for my 22. Makes seeing the target easier for this old geezer.
