The company I'm working for currently develops a lot of code in Borland's Codewright. Borland isn't selling Codewright anymore, so we need a new IDE. Just wondering what all the cool kids are using :x:

Needs to be Windows compatable and able to handle a bunch of different languages (at least C, C++, C#, XML, Java, and CORBA for now, but probably more later), but we're open to anything. Any suggestions?

Why not get your company to step up to .NET? :dunno:

Seems like a worthy investment and move towards a more standard/well supported system.

If I don't have an IDE, I usually just use EditPlus

We're trying to avoid the entire Studio .NET as it's rather pricey. The standalone C++ version is under consideration. We do mostly embedded development, so actual .NET functionality isn't all that necessary as most code is plain vanilla C. On the other hand, a lot of our scripts are on C#, so scripting people already have Visual Studio for C#.

.NET would be useful if the framework were available for more than one OS; then you could compile your code and have it run on any OS, just like Java. (Microsoft hates Java, remember?) As it is right now, all .NET lets you do is use a single compiler to compile your code from any Visual Studio language.

Be that as it may, I guess the cool kids ARE using .NET, though.
