Problems with Printer/Print Server - urgent

I've tried HP tech support and a friend who owns a local computer shop and neither has done a thing, so I'm turning to ST:T geeks for a little help.

My work printer is simply not working. Printer is an HP Color LaserJet 3550 and the print server is an HP JetDirect en3700. It had been working fine until a couple of days ago and it stopped printing for no apparent reason. The printer itself is not broken as when I hit the reset/test button on the back of the print server it prints out the IP and other information. All cartridges were recently replaced (within the last month), and the color cartridges were replaced today.

When I attempt to print I get an error message from the printer saying that the document failed to print, listing the document name, time, and name of the network printer.

Luckily I have another functional printer, but unfortunately it's not only slow as hell because it's an integrated copier/fax machine but the color cartridges are messed up and what should be blue prints out red. :ugh:

Any ideas, folks? Help would be greatly appreciated, I really need this printer back online for today especially.

    thanks
    Mike

First - can you access the JetDirect? If not - that's your problem. If you can, then Plug the printer into a computer and print via the printer - that will tell where the problem is, either with the JetDirect or with the printer.

We had a network printer blow its JetDirect after a few years of use

Oh, that I did try and it wouldn't connect.

Thanks for the help by the way, I thought nobody would ever reply :wtc:

Well then it's the JetDirect that is the problem. Can you ping it?

So... either it's not connected to the network anymore (cable broken or something), or the JetDirect is toast.

Try unplugging the router and print server for 15 seconds.
